HIT AND RUN - FATALITY

On August 13, 2022 at approximately 5:30AM, a passerby walking on 16th Street in La Grande observed a male subject lying on the side of the road on the 400 block of 16th Street and immediately contacted 911.

La Grande Police Department officers immediately responded and determined the male was deceased.  La Grande Police investigators started a comprehensive investigation with the assistance of the Oregon State Police, the Union County Sheriff’s Office and the Union County District Attorney.  The La Grande Police Department also received logistical support from the Union County Search & Rescue and the La Grande Fire Department.

During the investigation, investigators identified the deceased male as Maison Andrew (24) of La Grande.  Residents in the area were interviewed as well as others who came forward with information.  Over 60 items of evidence were collected at the scene and will be sent to the Oregon State Police Forensic Lab for analysis.

The investigation revealed a vehicle traveling south on 16th Street struck Maison Andrew as he was walking on 16th Street sometime during the previous night.  The driver of the suspect vehicle fled the scene without contacting emergency services.  Investigators are following up on leads and working diligently to identify the suspect vehicle and driver.

This investigation is ongoing and we encourage anyone who has information to assist with this investigation to please contact Sgt. Ryan Miller at the La Grande Police Department at 541.963.1017.
