Street Tree Planting

Community Forestry Programs
Street Tree Planting

The City of La Grande sponsors two street tree planting events annually; the spring tree planting in April and the fall street tree planting in October. The Urban Forester evaluates the planting sites and makes species recommendations. Planting the right tree in the right place minimizes maintenance expense and helps ensure a healthy tree.

The cost of the trees is shared by the City of La Grande and property owners. Property owners contribute $40 per tree and sign an agreement to care for the new tree(s). If you would like to purchase a tree contact the Urban Forestry Division to schedule a site evaluation at (541) 663-1952 or trees@cityoflagrande.org

The Street Tree Planting program relies on volunteers to help plant the trees. Residents are encouraged to plant the trees themselves but volunteers are available for those who need assistance. The Urban Forestry Division offers demonstrations on correct planting techniques for all residents and volunteers.

The Community Forestry Manual provides information on selecting, planting and caring for your new tree plus additional information about the Urban Forestry Program:
