Do I have to have a carbon monoxide alarm in my home?

We recommend you have one or more carbon monoxide alarms in your home if you have any carbon monoxide producing sources in your home. Recently passed Oregon law requires carbon monoxide alarms be installed in conjunction with new residential rental agreements, new construction and prior to the sale of residential property. The implementation dates and the population affected by the new carbon monoxide law are listed below. 

JULY 1, 2010 – For all new rental agreements, landlords must provide properly functioning carbon monoxide alarms for rental dwelling units with, or within a structure containing, a carbon monoxide source.

APRIL 1, 2011 – Landlords must provide properly functioning carbon monoxide alarms for all rental dwelling units with, or within a structure containing a carbon monoxide source.

APRIL 1, 2011 – Home sellers of one-and two family dwellings, manufactured dwellings, or multifamily housing units containing a carbon monoxide source must have one or more properly functioning carbon monoxide alarms before conveying fee title or transferring possession of a dwelling.

APRIL 1, 2011 – All new construction of one-and two family dwellings, manufactured dwellings, or multifamily housing units containing a carbon monoxide source must have one or more properly functioning carbon monoxide alarms before conveying fee title or transferring possession of a dwelling.
