Message From the Chief

As Fire Chief of the City of La Grande Fire Department, It is my pleasure to welcome you to the fire department’s web page. Our department has been serving the citizens of La Grande since 1887. Our members are committed to providing safe, effective and professional services in fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical response, transport and code enforcement to the members of our community.

The Fire Department operates out of a central fire station located at 1806 Cove Avenue and is staffed by 21 full-time personnel and 6 part-time EMS staff. Our full-time staff consist of three career captains, 15 career firefighters, one administrative assistant, one deputy chief and the fire chief. The full-time staff work a 48/96 schedule with one captain and five firefighters assigned to each of three shifts. All line members and both Chiefs are certified EMT Basic, Intermediate or Paramedics. In addition to providing services to the City f La Grande, our department provides Emergency Medical response and transport to all 2038 square miles of Union County. 

Annually we respond to approximately 3250 calls, with call volumes continuing to increase. Responses are split 78% EMS and 22% fires, rescues and public service.
