Hydrant Testing and Maintenance to Begin

Hydrant Testing and Maintenance to Begin

The City of La Grande is starting a semi-annual fire hydrant testing and maintenance program.  The Public Works Department will be conducting these tests this year starting April 11, 2016.  This program is very important to allow the Public Works Department to identify the quantity of water available for firefighting purposes and it serves to rid the City's water distribution system of accumulations of sedimentation deposits over the past year.

Citizens who experience any unusual water clarity problems after the hydrants are flushed are encouraged to turn on a cold-water faucet outside of the house and let it run for 5 to 10 minutes.  This will normally clear up the agitated water from the service line to the home.  Further problems may be referred to the La Grande Public Works Department by calling 541-962-1325.

Testing is expected to take place Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. until ALL hydrants are tested.
