Public Works

The City of La Grande Public Works Department consists of six Divisions that include Engineering, Motor Pool, Streets, Water, Wastewater Collection and Wastewater Treatment.  The Department has 29 full-time employees.

The staff maintains a water system that complies with the EPA and Division of Health requirements. Staff also maintains the Wastewater Collection system and Wastewater Treatment facilities to meet DEQ standards. These same employees provide construction and maintenance to the City’s transportation system (i.e.: streets, sidewalks, bicycle paths, storm-sewer systems and other infrastructure within the City).

The Department works with other utilities, developers and property owners in addressing utility easement issues, public improvements, subdivision development, local improvement districts and other municipal projects. The Department also maintains a set of Standard Specifications for providing uniform procedures for the installation, manufacture and delivery of materials and equipment for construction projects.

STREET USER FEE FUNDED PROJECTS

'Y' Avenue, Second St to N. Fir St - City crews will be placing an asphalt overlay on this street the first two weeks of October, weather permitting.

The City has contracted with La Grande Asphalt to place asphalt overlays on the following streets until funds are depleted:

'K' Avenue, Fourth St. to Second St.

'W' Avenue, Depot St. to Jackson St.

Penn Avenue, Sixth St. to Fourth Street

'U' Avenue, Spruce St. to Pine St.

The above projects are listed in priority order and are funded entirely with Street User Fees, which have a limited budget each year.  Although it is projected that Public Works will be able to proceed with construction on each street in 2011, it may be necessary to delay construction until 2012 due to funding availability and adverse weather conditions.

If you have questions regarding these anticipated projects within the City of La Grande, please contact Norm Paullus at (541) 962-1325.
