Community & Economic Development
The Community and Economic Development Department is responsible for managing and planning for the Community's growth and development. An integrated approach ensures the highest level of customer service and the creation of a business-friendly environment that encourages economic growth and sustainability. The Department oversees the La Grande Main Street program and administering building and development standards for the City of La Grande, including the integrity of the La Grande Historic District.
In addition to these responsibilities, this Department provides staff support to the La Grande Main Street Committees, Building Board of Appeals, La Grande Planning Commission, the La Grande Landmarks Commission and the Urban Renewal Advisory Commission.
The Community and Economic Development Department is comprised of the following Divisions:
- Oversees the implementation of the Urban Renewal Plan, the Economic Development Plan and the Main Street program; works in partnership with other local, regional and statewide economic resources.
- Oversees Building, Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical and related Permits for all Commercial, Industrial and Residential construction in Union County and all municipal jurisdictions within Union County.
- Oversees all Land Use Standards related to Residential, Commercial and Industrial development within the City of La Grande and its Urban Growth Boundary.
